Florida Kindergartener Embraces Navy Mom Back From Deployment

A little girl was brought to tears when she reunited with her mother – a chief yeoman in the Navy – at school in Bradenton, Florida, on February 8, following a year-and-a-half deployment, the School District of Manatee County said.

The School District of Manatee County provided this footage of Navy Chief Yeoman Diana Martin surprising her daughter, a kindergartener at Louise R Johnson K-8 School of International Studies. A school district spokesperson told Storyful that Martin was deployed aboard the USS Ralph Johnson for 10 months, but she hadn’t seen her daughter for a year and a half because she was also based in Everett, Washington, during the remaining months.

“The little girl took one look at her mom and couldn’t let go,” the School District of Manatee County said on Facebook.

Martin told the school district she expects to be home for six months before she reports back to the Navy. Credit: School District of Manatee County via Storyful
