Flowers left at scene of Chillingham Road car crash that left two dead

Flowers today mark the spot where two people died in a horror car smash.

The men, aged 30 and 26, were pronounced dead at the scene after a Mercedes crashed into a wall in Heaton, Newcastle, early on Thursday morning. Two women were also seriously injured in the collision, which happened on Chillingham Road, at around 2.15am.

Several bouquets of flowers have since been left at the scene as police continue their investigations. A message attached to one reads "sleep tight" with a heart drawn below.

Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the collision.

Sgt Andy Ferguson, of the force's Roads Policing Unit, said: "This is an incredibly sad incident and our thoughts are firmly with the families and loved-ones of the two people who have tragically died. We have specially-trained officers supporting them and will assist in any way we can."
