'Fly tipping blights everyone no matter where they live' - readers anger over dumped rubbish
Coventry Live readers have been discussing the recent incident of fly tipping in Coventry's Manor Farm estate, and raised concerns about the neglect of the area by city authorities. Items like sofas, mattresses, and burned rubbish, have been left on and around the estate, which in turn has drawn attention to the deprivation in the neighborhood.
Ian Rogers, a city resident, expressed his frustration, stating, "Unfortunately, this is one of the poorest areas in the whole of England but neither the council nor Citizen Housing seem to care about the state of it." He highlighted the lack of attention given to improving the living conditions in the estate, pointing out the closure of local amenities and inadequate maintenance.
In response to the incident, Elly Dix from Citizen Housing mentioned that they swiftly removed the dumped items within 24 hours of receiving reports. She emphasized their efforts to address fly-tipping through regular checks and customer engagement initiatives. The council also pledged to investigate and clean up reported incidents while urging residents to report any fly-tipping they witness.

Reader Bobinder says: "I cannot understand the need to denigrate or insult people based on where they live or their perceived lack of wealth. Fly tipping blights almost everyone no matter where they live, Those responsible could easily have drove past and dumped the waste before travelling miles away, We just don't know. Waste collection services should be provided free of charge save for a small surcharge to cover fuel. Most of the items being dumped or discarded cost less new than it does to dispose it!"
Mouse111 adds: "Those responsible haven't travelled very far. it's people that live close who have dumped it. Manor Farm isn't the best of estates, the council could spend a fortune on the houses."
Tgitsfree agrees: "You're right, it is those who live on the estate do the dumping. 10/15 years ago the whole estate was getting bulldozed but instead, money was spent on sprucing the place up and it did look very smart when completed. All houses, cladded, rendered and looking good. Sadly those that live there haven't treated it with respect and are dragging it back down."
Truestskyblue says otherwise: "No doubt this is people from posh areas of the city travelling in and dumping their rubbish in an area where the residents do everything they can to improve their own environment and look after the things provided for them by the taxpayers."
Happydays1883 says: "Ridiculous notion, if you live in a ‘posh area’ you aren’t driving your rubbish anywhere, you simply pay for it to be disposed of."
Bernie S blames the council: "You waste your time reporting anything to the council I have reported copious amounts of fly tipping in Wyley Road Radford since my last report to them not only did they not respond and clear it there is more fly tipping,so don’t bother reporting it falls on deaf ears."
Nicfontain agrees: "Coventry City Council has 4,800 staff, yet it has to rely upon the public to tell it about things that have been dumped weeks ago."
