Fly-tipping hotspot in Craigneuk successfully cleared by council
A fly-tipping hotspot in Craigneuk has been cleared after large amounts of rubbish was dumped at the site.
Significant quantities of used materials were left throughout the lane at Craigneuk that is located between the residential streets of Glencleland Road and Flaxmill Avenue with the final stretch of the path also backing onto Glencairn Avenue.
Councillor Nathan Wilson reported the fly-tipping to North Lanarkshire’s Environment Service and he called on the local authority to clear the site.
A visit was arranged by the council with items including two fridges, blinds, wood, a mattress and carpet all removed from the section of the lane that is accessed from Meadowhead Road.
However, Councillor Wilson then visited the site and found that the section of the path at the Glencleland Road end had not been cleared with the dumped materials still present on the land.
The items that were removed from the section of the lane that is accessed from Glencleland Road includes metal objects, a tyre, discarded children’s play equipment, toddlers car seats and items of litter.
Councillor Wilson said: “There can never be any justification for fly tipping and the dumping of used materials in public places is unacceptable.
“The lane in Craigneuk has been subject to considerable amounts of fly tipping over the years and I was very concerned to learn about the huge quantities of dumped items that were recently present at the site.

“Following my initial reporting of the fly tipping, I was informed by the council that the site had been cleared but after visiting again in person, there had been no removal work at the Glencleland Road end of the lane.
“I immediately got back in touch with the council and I am grateful to the Environment Service for arranging a prompt further clean up to remove the fly-tipping at this section of the lane.
“It is welcome that the site has been largely cleared and with lane now in a much better condition.”
