The nights are darkening and the chill is setting in. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

At The Cheese Bar in Camden, winter is as good an excuse as any to heat things up and crack out the fondue. And that’s a plan that’s hard to knock.

Founder Mathew Carver and the cheese crew have created two fondue recipes, which will be served every Thursday throughout November.

A classic four cheese and white wine fondue will sit alongside the so-called Young Buck, made with blue cheese, cider and kirsch.

For dipping there will be plenty of baguette, but plenty more besides.

The festive selection of items to scoop with includes crispy truffled roast potatoes, deep-fried Brussels sprouts and pigs in blankets.

Sweet options will include a traditional apple strudel served with mascarpone ice cream from La Gelateria, which won’t be in fondue form. And if that wasn’t warming enough, there will be Alpine wines from Les Cave de Pyrene and kirsch to wash it all down with.

As well as running for all each Thursday evening, the fondues can be ordered for Christmas party bookings of 6 or more any day of the week.

Carver said: “When it comes to melted cheese dishes, fondue is right up there with the best, nothing beats the winter chill like dipping fresh bread in hot molten cheese.”
