Fans are expecting the Foo Fighters to announce a headline slot at Glastonbury Festival.

The US group – who were forced to pull out of the Worthy Farm event in 2015 – have sent “boarding cards” to fans for a fictitious “Obelisk Airlines”.

The “First Class” card lists the “check-in time” as 18.00 hours on Tuesday, February 21 and is signed with Dave Grohl's autograph.

The band’s website is also showing a departure board displaying their confirmed tour dates with one date tagged as “PENDING” alongside a line of jumbled letters.

Fans have been calling for the group to headline the festival ever since they were replaced by Florence and the Machine after Grohl broke his leg ahead of their gig.

Speaking about the accident, drummer Taylor Hawkins told NME last year: “It was a bummer when we had to pull out the other year. It was a bummer all round. I mean, Dave almost pulverized his entire f****** leg – and missing Glastonbury was part of that bummer.

“We were excited to get out there and do our march through Wembley then Glastonbury headlining. We were set to pop, we were set to go and then Dave broke his leg like that it was a kick in the f****** nuts.

“The last thing Dave ever wants is to cancel a show, but we made lemonade. We got lemons and made lemonade. Maybe we’ll get to do Glastonbury again, I don’t know, like I said, I’m the last to know.”

Radiohead were the first act to be confirmed ahead of this year's event. They will headline the iconic Pyramid stage on the Friday night. Other acts rumoured to be headlining include Depeche Mode and Ed Sheeran.

The Somerset-born singer has previously expressed a wish to play the famous festival, and in November betting was suspended on him headlining after a flurry of bets were placed.
