Footage Shows Buck Shaking Antlers off Head in Vermont's Green Mountains

Trail camera video of an eight-point buck shedding his antlers with a shake of his head was captured in Northfield, Vermont, by Ann Sivori on January 4.

In the footage, which was posted to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Facebook page, the deer scratches his head with a hind leg, then gives his antlers a shake. The antlers fall to the ground.

Sivori wrote in a Facebook post that she recovered them and they are “on my mantel now.”

Male deer shed and regrow their antlers on a regular basis all their lives, and “white-tail deer antlers are one of the fastest-growing tissues known to man,” according to Big Game Logic. Credit: Ann Sivori via Storyful
