Footage Shows River Overflowing, Inundating Road in New South Wales

Fast moving floodwaters inundated roads in Wellington, New South Wales, after heavy rain hit the region, footage from November 14 shows.

This video, filmed by Belinda Thomas, shows water overflowing from the nearby Bell River, quickly flooding Showground Road in Wellington on Monday.

A flood warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology on November 13 for the Bell River, with flood levels easing on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in New South Wales, police were searching for two people missing in floodwaters. 60-year-old Diane Smith and 85-year-old Ljubisa ‘Les’ Vugec, 85 both went missing from the town of Eugowra on Monday morning.

An evacuation order was issued for the town early Tuesday morning, after flash flooding caused the river to rise quicker than expected.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast levels similar to the 1952 flood, with the Lachlan River expected to peak at 10.8 meters (35.4 feet) on Wednesday. Credit: Belinda Thomas via Storyful
