Football fans were quick to correct Gareth Bale for a slip of the tongue moment during a Q&A session with TNT Sports. The legendary former Welsh captain faced 11 quick-fire questions including who would play him in a movie, what his favourite stadium is, and his favourite football memory.

But it was when answering a question about his favourite dressing room moment that Bale innocently slipped up. He mistakingly said Wales had played Ireland at the Euro 2016, instead of Northern Ireland.

The sides met in the knockout stages in Paris, with a Gareth McAuley own goal sealing a narrow 1-0 win for Bale and the Dragons who went on to reach the semi-finals of the tournament before losing to eventual winners Portugal.

Bale told TNT Sports: "Euro 2016. I think we beat Ireland in Paris and, yeah, everyone was dancing on the tables. Yeah, Joe Ledley in particular was very funny."

"So that was probably the best."

Suffice to say, some of the comments on TikTok were quick to point out the error.

One person said: "Wales didn't beat or even play Ireland at Euro 2016."

Jordan said: "They played Northern Ireland."

Another TikTok user said: "You never beat Ireland in Paris lil bro."

James said: "Wales didn't play Ireland in 2016."

And Coots added: "Northern Ireland you beat not Ireland."

Meanwhile, Bale also said he would love to play a round of golf with Rory McIlroy.

When asked to pick three non-footballers to play in a fourball with, the former Real Madrid man - who retired last year - named McIlroy alongside Tiger Woods and basketball superstar Steph Curry.
