Football Fans Soaked as Rain Overflows in Chicago's Soldier Field

Rain was seen gushing down the steps of Chicago’s Soldier Field on September 11, as the Chicago Bears defeated the San Francisco 49ers in their rainy opener of the National Football League 2022 season.

Video recorded by Dalia Grajeda shows football fans dressed in ponchos and raincoats maneuvering down overflowing steps and into a flooded foyer area while attempting to leave the game. Grajeda told Storyful that while the rain was on and off during the first half, it got progressively worse.

“We were completely soaked by the third quarter,” Grajeda told Storyful. “After I took my pictures and videos – a couple hours later – my phone stopped working.”

The National Weather Service warned that day of persistent moderate-to-heavy rainfall, along with localized flooding in Chicago.
