Foreign Office issues Italy travel warning and says 'you cannot check into hotels'
Certain tourists travelling to Italy have been warned they will not be able to check into their hotels. The Foreign Office said that there are specific rules that must be followed if you are under 17.
Young people aged up to 17 cannot check into their accommodation alone when in Italy. They must be with an adult if they want to stay in hotels or other types of accommodation.
In an update on October 16, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) issued new information on travelling with people aged 17 and under. It said: "If you’re aged 17 or under, you cannot check into hotels or holiday accommodation without an accompanying adult.

"British people aged 17 and under travelling without their parents or guardians do not need any authorisation stamped by the Embassy, even if they are resident in Italy. Only Italian children travelling without parents or guardians need such a document stamped by the local police.
"See further advice on travelling abroad with people aged 17 and under, or travelling to the UK with people aged 17 and under." You must get the permission of everyone who has a parental responsibility for a child or from a court before taking a child abroad.
