Foreign Office urgent Italy warning as UK tourists told 'check before you travel'

Tourists heading to Italy are being warned of 'severe weather' affecting the country. The Foreign Office said many areas of Italy were being impacted by miserable weather conditions.

There could be delays to transport, including train journeys and on the roads. UK holidaymakers were advised to check with their tour operator or accommodation provider before they travelled.

Travellers were also warned to follow the advice of authorities abroad while on holiday. In an update on September 24, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office issued information on 'severe weather warnings and flooding in Italy'.

It said: "Severe weather and flooding is currently affecting many areas of Italy, particularly Emilia Romagna and Tuscany. Rail services and roads may be affected. The website of Ferrovie dello Stato website has more information (in Italian only). Check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities.
