Foreign Office urgent travel warning over 'widespread flooding'

Holidaymakers heading to Thailand have been warned about 'widespread flooding' sweeping parts of the country. The Foreign Office said British travellers needed to 'remain vigilant' while in the country.

Tourists were told to follow the advice of local authorities to stay safe while on holiday. Heavy downpours and flooding continue to batter some areas of Thailand.

Warnings were in place for areas near the Ping River, including in central Chiang Mai. In an update on September 24, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office issued information about 'heavy rains and flooding in parts of the country'.

It said: "Thailand is currently facing heavy rains and flooding in parts of the country, including widespread flooding in northern Thailand. Local authorities have issued warnings related to areas near the Ping River, including in central Chiang Mai.

"Remain vigilant and follow the advice of local authorities."
