Starke is best known for his role of Thomas 'Sinbad' Sweeney in Brookside, which he played for 16 years between 1984 and 2000.

He also starred as Jerry Morton in Coronation Street between March 2007 and September 2008, and had two separate stints in Casualty, both at Christmas time.

Hollyoaks recently wrapped up guest appearances from Strictly Come Dancing and Love Island stars AJ and Curtis Pritchard, who appeared as a devious pair of dancers who tried to make life difficult for Trish Minniver (played by another soap veteran, Denise Welch).

The pair received a backlash on social media for their acting, but when they were asked about it in an interview, they insisted that they weren't aware of any fallout until then.

"If someone's got constructive criticism, 100 per cent that's great, but if it's just negativity then it's not something I'm going to waste my energy and time on," said AJ.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4. Michael Starke's episodes will reportedly air on Wednesday and Thursday on E4.
