Former Bury police station site to be transformed
Work to convert Bury’s former police station site into two large care homes is to start before the end of the year. The site on Irwell Street, next to the Castle Leisure centre, has been vacant and has become overgrown since demolition of the multi-storey police station in 2018.
Bury's planning committee has approved plans Exemplar Healthcare to build two care homes for up to 80 residents for adults living with complex needs. Around 100 people are expected to be employed there once the homes are built.

A design and access report support the plans, said: "Nurse-led teams are trained to support adults living with complex mental health needs, dementia, neuro-disabilities including brain injuries, Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, and physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, spinal injuries and musculoskeletal disorders.
"They also have a number of services that are registered to support adults living with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities or autism spectrum disorder. "Exemplar support adults of all ages. Most are of working age, only a third are over the age of 65."
Exemplar operate more than 50 care homes across the country. The site will split into two land parcels, the one to the north of the site near Lower Bank
Street now has full planning permission with work set to start before the end of the year. The one to the south of the site towards Jubilee Way has received outline permission and will be built at a later date.
Each parcel will comprise a care home with amenity space, access, parking and landscaping. The planning committee this week unanimously approved the plans.
