Former Coatbridge school left completely destroyed after massive fire ripped through premises


Footage taken after a blaze tore through a former Coatbridge primary school shows the burnt out shell of the premises.

Emergency services rushed to the derelict building on Gartsherrie Road - formerly known as Gartsherrie School - after receiving reports of the inferno at around 7.45pm on Sunday evening (June 9).

Thick plumes of smoke could be seen, all the way from Glasgow city centre. Crews battled the vicious flames well into the early hours of the following the morning.

The blaze is now believed to be extinguished and the road has since reopened to the public.

A video of the aftermath shows the blackened state of the former school. The building appears to have lost its roof in the fire and many of the windows seem to be blown out.

One fire appliance remains on the scene to monitor hotspots.

Police Scotland has been contacted for an updated comment.
