Former Coronation Street star Nicholas Cochrane is set to appear in another soap, over two decades after leaving the ITV show full time.

The Andy McDonald actor has been cast in Doctors, though you won't see him for long as he'll reportedly only appear in one episode.

According to Inside Soap, Nicholas plays a local businessman who gets in too deep with a gangster.

The star appeared on Corrie between 1989 and 1997, though has returned occasionally, most recently in 2009.

Corrie legend Beverley Callard (who plays Liz McDonald) called for his return to the cobbles earlier this year, telling The Sun: "I told Iain [MacLeod] the new producer please bring him back and bring Jim back as well so hopefully he has listened to me. I hope they bring him back at some point.

"I know [Nicholas Cochrane, who played Andy] is busy and he's doing lots of theatre but I think he would love to come back. We'd love him back. I want all the McDonalds back. Honestly there is nothing I would love more than that.

"It would be nice and also because you've got those four really different personalities. Andy's a bit more like Jim, and Steve and Liz are very similar."

She added: "Steve will make a mistake and Liz will tell him off and then two weeks later she will do the same thing. They go from being ridiculous to making the most stupid mistakes of all time."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV. Doctors airs on weekdays at 1.45pm on BBC One.
