A former soft play centre in Ellesmere Port has been knocked down. Bulldozers were seen at the site of the old Crazy Town venue on Coronation Road this week.

The Cheshire West and Chester Council-owned building has been demolished in order to make way for new "low-carbon homes" as part of wider plans to transform the ailing town centre. Last year we reported that more than £13m of Government cash had been secured by the local authority for an ambitious 'levelling up' project.

The scheme involves preparations for low carbon homes, an exciting market revamp and a safe cycle and pedestrian route from the railway station to the town centre in order to encourage 'active travel' and help reduce congestion. The old soft play centre - along with the demolished former EPIC leisure centre site opposite - have long been identified as potential sites for new homes.

The nearby Oasis Centre for Young People, which permanently shut its doors over the summer just a year shy of its 60th anniversary, will also soon be demolished for the same purpose. The much loved children’s play centre closed its doors for good in March 2017 to the dismay of many families.

Management at Crazy Town decided not to renew the lease on the building due to "council regeneration plans" on Coronation Road. The property has remained empty ever since.
