Emmerdale alumni Kris Mochrie has opened up how Coronation Street saved his mother's life.

The actor, who played Lee Posner for a storyline in 2019, shared a photo of his mother this week and told his Instagram followers her story.

"This is my incredible, kind and extremely brave Mum," his caption reads. "In 2009 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The only reason Mum checked herself was because of a storyline in Coronation Street where Sally Webster finds a lump in her breast...

"Mum made a full recovery thanks to acting quickly. Television saves lives. Storylines save lives. Sharing your stories and creating more awareness will save lives."

The actor continued: "I’ll always be eternally grateful to the power of telly and in particular good old Corrie. Also the incredible treatment by our NHS and the team at Marie Curie who supported her from day one."

He also directed fans to an article his mum had written about her own journey and asked fans to give it a read in the hope that it might help someone. "Thanks for the detail on how your boobs are now Mum," he jokingly added. "I didn’t need to read that bit."

Although his time on Emmerdale only lasted about half a year, Mochrie found something that lasted a lot longer. Or rather, someone.

Just over a year ago, the actor announced that he had gotten engaged to Max Parker, who played his on-screen brother Luke Posner in the soap.

"I just feel very lucky and very happy, and I did not expect it in a million years," Mochrie said when reflecting on how the proposal went down.

"The way that he planned it as well you know... he chose a spot and hid a drone in the bushes – obviously not with the propellers on – so just the thought that went into it was amazing."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
