Former Georgian President Joins Sixth Day of Demonstrations

Anti-government demonstrators gathered outside the Georgian parliament in Tbilisi for a sixth night of protests on June 25.

The protesters were joined by former Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, who praised them for wanting a “brighter future” for their country and told them that they were “making history”.

The protests were initially anti-Russian in nature, and sparked by Russian MP Sergei Gavrilov occupying the speaker’s chair in the Georgian parliament during a conference of Orthodox countries. Protesters saw this as symbolic of Russia’s unwanted influence, especially in relation to separatist regions. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
