Holby City's former cast member Leslie Ash has teased further crossovers with Casualty.

The actress, who played Vanessa Lytton on Holby, will be reprising the character on Casualty this Saturday (July 10) for one episode only – this time showing up as a patient on the ward.

Ahead of this, she shared her thoughts on the BBC's axing of Holby, and what that could mean for the show's sister medical drama.

"I didn't see it coming at all," she told Digital Spy of Holby's cancellation. "It is a shame and I am sure a lot of people are devastated. Casualty will run on though and it will maybe give way to something new coming in.

"I hope we aren't moving away from soaps. TV is changing – we've got Netflix and everyone can watch TV in a different way now."

Quizzed on whether more Holby characters might cross over into Casualty storylines going forward, Leslie responded: "Yes, I do think so.

"Connie [Beauchamp] from Holby ended up in Casualty and it's happened a good few times over the years. So yes, I imagine it's very likely."

As for what fans should look out for when Vanessa returns to screens, she teased one particular scene involving Derek Thompson (Charlie Fairhead).

Leslie explained: "There's a lovely moment with Derek and I haven’t seen him since The Gentle Touch – which was one of my very first jobs!

"Derek was a regular on that so I hadn't seen him for 40 years. It was really nice to work with Derek aka Charlie – he recognises the name and it should have quite an effect on the audience if they watched Holby back then!"

And it sounds like it might not be the last we see of Vanessa, with Leslie saying a return in the future would be "lovely".

"She's got this ongoing story and it still doesn't finish, even in this episode," she added.

Casualty continues this Saturday (July 10) at 9.30pm on BBC One.
