Former Home and Away star Martin Lynes has been found guilty of aggravated sexual assault.

The actor, who played villain Adam Sharpe on the soap, will be sentenced in October at Penrith District Court and in the meantime will be kept in custody, reports the Daily Telegraph Australia.

The 50-year-old had faced three charges relating to alleged incidents in 2015 and 2016, but was found not guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and having sexual intercourse without consent.

The jury heard allegations that Lynes became physically and verbally violent and sexually aggressive towards the victim on February 29, 2016 during a dispute in his home in Bateau Bay, Australia, when she returned home from work early as a result of illness.

The woman had to get injuries treated at hospital, and contacted family and police.

Lynes had pleaded not guilty to each of the charges against him.

On Home and Away, Lynes's character Adam acted as mentor to Darryl Braxton and was later sentenced to 25 years in prison, also confessing to the murder of Johnny Barrett.

Lyne first rose to wide fame in Australia for his six years playing as Dr Luke Forlano in All Saints, another troubled character who was caught up with the mob.

He has also appeared in Aussie teen drama Blue Water High, the police procedural Sea Patrol, family drama McLeod's Daughters and the hit dramedy Packed to the Rafters in his native country.
