Real Betis have announced the signing of former Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian.

His exit from the Reds was confirmed over the weekend after he rejected the chance to extend his stay at Anfield. Adrian joined the club from West Ham in 2019 and ended up making 26 appearances during his five-year spell on Merseyside, including playing 11 times during their maiden Premier League title success.

However, Adrian had not featured for the Reds since the Community Shield against Manchester City in July 2022, with Caoimhin Kelleher used as back-up to first-choice shot-stopper Alisson. This meant Adrian spent the last couple of years as No.3, though he still remained an important member of the squad.

With Adrian not signing a new deal at Liverpool, he has already found new employers. He has made the switch to La Liga side Real Betis - the club at which he started his career. Adrian came through the ranks at the Seville-based outfit, making a number of appearances for their B side before being handed a chance in the first-team.

Adrian played 32 times for Betis in the 2012/13 campaign before earning himself a switch to West Ham in the Premier League. He starred for the Hammers over the course of his six years at the club, playing 150 matches, including four times, before being displaced by Lukasz Fabianski as their No.1.

Betis announced the arrival of Adrian on Twitter, formerly known as X, with a video of the 37-year-old as Rocky. The clip, which lasted over 90 seconds, saw Adrian running in his tracksuit with his hands taped before performing a series of sit-ups and press ups. He ended the video by shouting 'Adrian'.

Shortly after, Adrian then tweeted: "A JIERRO," followed by the flexed biceps and green love heart emoji. Betis faced Salzburg in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 20, before a potential reunion for Adrian with Liverpool a week later. Betis also face Manchester United and Al-Ittihad in pre-season.
