Cheltenham Town are lining up a move for Torquay United striker Aaron Jarvis.

The 26-year-old netted 27 goals in two seasons with the Gulls, who finished 18th in National League South last season after an 11-point deduction due to a combination of financial issues and fielding a suspended player.

Newly-appointed Cheltenham director of football Gary Johnson is now set to raid his former club, who suffered relegation from the National League in 2022/23.

Jarvis started out in the youth set-up at hometown club Basingstoke, earning a move to then League Two Luton Town in the summer of 2017.

Loan spells at Boreham Wood and Falkirk followed before he joined Sutton United in 2019.

Jarvis, 6ft 2in, then spent two seasons in League Two with Scunthorpe United before joining Torquay in 2022.

He scored hat-tricks against Aldershot Town and York City during his first season at Plainmoor, ending with a total of 18 goals in all competitions, followed up with another nine during an injury-affected 2023/24 campaign.

It has already been confirmed that Jarvis will be leaving Torquay this summer, along with midfielder Brett McGavin.

And Gloucestershire Live understands Jarvis will now become Johnson's first signing since returning to Cheltenham last week.

Cheltenham have Matty Taylor, Rob Street, Aidan Keena and Tom King as their contracted forwards.

George Lloyd has been offered a new deal, but is expected to depart on a free transfer.

The club are set to appoint Michael Flynn as their new head coach this week after conducting interviews with three candidates on Monday and offering the former Newport County, Walsall and Swindon Town boss the role.
