Rafael rubbed salt in the wounds for Manchester City - declaring he’s still a United fan after Lyon’s shock Champions League win.

The Brazilian defender, who spent seven years at Old Trafford, was the last man to leave the pitch on Wednesday night as he savoured every moment of a famous 2-1 win .

And he was quick to remind the Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions of his own record on the blue half of Manchester.

“Everybody knows I’m a United supporter,” said Rafael. “To come here to win at City – I’ve never lost here – is very good for me.

“I really enjoyed it, of course. City are the champions and have this team at the moment. For me it’s an amazing feeling. I’m still feeling very good.”

Man City were 'not good enough' after losing to Lyon, says Mikel Arteta

First half goals from Maxwell Cornet and Nabil Fekir stunned Guardiola’s side.

By the time Bernardo Silva had pulled one back after the break, the damage had already been done.

Lyon, who have won only one of four games domestically so far this season, were never expected to cause an upset - but were thoroughly worth their win.

Rafael added: “I don’t know if they underestimated us. We played well. We had more chances to score goals.

“Maybe they thought we are not very good in Ligue 1, you know. We’re not playing very good football.

“Maybe they looked at the videos and said: ‘Well, they don’t have good confidence.’

“I think we played really well.

We know that if we play together we have a chance against any team.

“We have quality players, as you saw. We just need to play like this more often and results will come.

“After a win here of course we think we can go through. We just need to play like this more often – not just because it’s Manchester City.”
