Former Neighbours star Natalie Bassingthwaighte has landed her next movie role, joining the cast of Take My Hand.

The actress, who played Izzy Hoyland on the Australian soap, will star alongside Radha Mitchell, Adam Demos and Bart Edwards in the romance-drama (via Deadline).

The film will follow Laura (Mitchell and Meg Fraser in younger and older years), a “vibrant young Australian woman who forges a successful banking career in London and seemingly has the perfect marriage. Her world is turned upside down when she is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and her husband (Edwards) starts to show his true colours.

“When a tragic accident leaves her a widowed mother with three sons, she returns home to Australia, and is reunited with Michael (played by Demos and Xavier Molyneux, again at different stages of life), a high school friend and a divorcee with one daughter, who has loved Laura since they were teenagers,” the logline continues.

The film will be written and directed by Raftopoulos, who based the plot on the story of his relationship with his wife; Dave Paterson also contributed to the script in a co-writer capacity.

Bassingthwaighte’s character in the film is currently undisclosed, and it is also unknown if she will be returning for Amazon Freevee’s reboot of Neighbours.

The actress played Izzy between 2003 and 2007 before returning in 2018 for a guest stint and a one-off appearance for the show’s presumed finale last year.

Upon the soap being axed by Channel 5 last year, Bassingthwaighte said: “It's heartbreaking for so many people. It's just been such an amazing launchpad for so many including myself. I learned so much on the show.

“To farewell it feels a bit surreal to be really ending. I think you have to be grateful and go, 'Wow, it lasted so long and it made a lot of people smile over the years,'” she added.

Neighbours returns in the second half of 2023 with new episodes streaming free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
