Former X Factor Star Lucie Jones Is UK’s Eurovision Pick

OK, so we might have voted to leave the European Union, but there’s no way in hell that we’d ever give up on our beloved Eurovision Song Contest.

Last night, it was announced that former X Factor contestant Lucie Jones will be representing the UK in this year’s competition – winning the live public vote on BBC2’s ‘Eurovision: You Decide’ programme.

Her single, Never Give Up On You, was co-written by Emmelie de Forest, the Danish singer-songwriter who won Eurovision back in 2013.

Broadcast from the Hammersmith Apollo, Welsh singer Lucie – who came eighth on the 2009 series of the X Factor – was announced as the winner by former Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc.

“I can’t believe you picked me - thank you so much”, she told the audience.

The Welsh singer also tweeted: “Completely overwhelmed and so surprised. Tonight’s been one of the best nights of my life.”

She was up against five other X Factor contestants, including Salena Mastroianni, Nate Simpson, Holly Brewer, Olivia Garcia and her fellow contestant from the 2009 competition, Danyl Johnson.

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Kiev, Ukraine this May.

And we can’t flippin’ wait!
