I found St James' Stack's 'hidden gem' and the food is absolutely amazing

It's still not even two weeks since the new Stack launched in Newcastle but it has already proved to be immensely popular, with people flocking in their droves

As well as there being a buzzing atmosphere at the new hotspot, it also boasts ELEVEN different food vendors. And one of them is proving to be a real 'hidden gem' and a word of mouth success, as customers can't get enough of its food.

Since St James' Stack opened on August 8, it's been visited by American TikTok star Kalani Ghostunter, who was very keen to try out the ramen and churros on offer at Davey's Mexicano, while, ahead of the opening, well known Geordie business Brack Burger confirmed their arrival by recruiting now ex Newcastle United star Paul Dummett to star in a teaser advert.

Dabbawal, with popular restaurants in Newcastle city centre and Jesmond, have also been getting a lot of attention for their street food venture but there's another company who have been giving plenty of food for thought with less fanfare - Texas Smoker. Having had plenty of custom at Winter Wonderland and Kendal Calling over the last few years, the vendor now has a base at Stack and has been getting plenty of positive feedback for their menu over in the first few weeks of trading there.

Texas Smoker, slightly hidden out of view on Stack's top floor, describes itself as the home of 'the dirtiest fries' and, while they have been getting a lot of praise in Instagram comment sections, they aren't the only dish that has been tickling tastebuds. I headed to St James' Stack midway through its first week, looking for some tea time sustenance and were tempted by the Buffalo Chicken Wrap.

And, like many others, this particular journo is happy to report that, like the dirty fries, the wrap definitely lives up to the growing hype surrounding the Smoker's menu. The blend of fried chicken, melted mozzarella and crunch house coleslaw, was absolutely delicious and went VERY well with a glass of pinot from the bar opposite.

Other things to get people heated up on the Texas Smoker menu in its first few weeks at Stack include its beef brisket stack, chilli cheese dog and racks of ribs, as customers urge food influencers and online stars to get themselves along to try them out for themselves.

St James' Stack is open daily from 10am right through to midnight.
