Four Officers Treated For Smoke Inhalation After Pulling Man From Burning Car

Four police officers were treated for smoke inhalation after pulling a man from a burning car in West Melbourne, Florida, on November 4.

Bodycam footage released by the police department shows officers frantically working to rescue the man who had been calling for help from the smoke-filled car at a parking lot on Durham Drive. One officer is seen using a fire extinguisher to break the passenger window.

“Had it not been for the swift action of these officers, things may have ended differently,” West Melbourne Police Sgt Graig Erenstoft said in a statement.

Police said four officers were transported to hospital for smoke inhalation, and one officer remained in hospital as of Thursday for observation. The man they rescued was hospitalized and in stable condition, they said. Credit: West Melbourne Police Department via Storyful
