Four rushed to hospital after fairground ride 'collapses' as onlookers tell of horror

Four people were hospitalised after a fairground ride reportedly 'collapsed'. The emergency services were called to an incident in Brockwell Park, south London, this evening at about 6.20pm.

Police said no one has been trapped on the ride, which is part of the Lambeth Country Show, My London reported. The conditions of the four people rushed to hospital is still unknown. Enquiries are underway to establish what happened, and cordons remain in place tonight.

The Health & Safety Executive will be informed. Local residents took to social media after the incident.

One said: "Fairground ride has apparently collapsed in Brockwell Park." Another added: "We were the next in line for the ride and it collapsed in front of us. It was horrific and we feel sick at the thought of those affected."

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: "Emergency services responded at around 6.20pm on Saturday to a fairground ride having failed at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park. Four people have been taken to hospital. We await an assessment of their conditions. Nobody is trapped on the ride.

"Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances. Cordons are in place at the location. The Health & Safety Executive will be informed."
