A number of Wetherspoons pubs in Surrey have been praised for their top quality toilets. The four pubs were awarded the highest grade for the quality and standards at the Loo of the Year Awards.

Dubbed the Washroom Oscars, receiving the highest rank, the platinum award, is an impressive accomplishment for any restaurant, bar, café or any public toilet. Loo of the Year judges visit thousands of public washrooms each year, with owners of public toilets entering their toilets to be inspected and graded. These inspectors visit each entry unannounced and grade the facilities.

The four JD Wetherspoons awarded the platinum prize for their toilet facilities are The George in the High Street in Staines, The Sun pub in London Road, Redhill, The Edmund Tylney in the High Street in Leatherhead, and The Moon on the Square in Feltham High Street.

All toilets are graded on the scale of bronze, silver, gold, diamond and platinum, with the two highest grades being considered for national awards. These grades are awarded based on 100 criteria, and are awarded on the basis of inspections of men and women's toilets, and baby changing and accessible facilities.

The Loo of the Year Awards 2024 managing director, Becky Wall, said all platinum awarded toilets "have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pubs deserve their platinum awards".

JD Wetherspoons has an impressive trophy cabinet when its comes to the Loo of the Year Awards. In addition to awards for toilets in individual establishments, companies which win multiple diamond and platinum awards for their toilets across the country have the chance to win the overall 'Loo of the Year' award. If successful they will be presented with a prestigious a golden loo seat trophy.
