Fox hunting protester arrested after shouting 'kill May' as Prime Minister arrives at campaign event

A fox hunting protester was arrested as Theresa May arrived at a campaign event in Wrexham.

The man played a hunting bugle and allegedly shouted “save our wildlife, kill May” as the Prime Minister arrived at a community centre.

Images showed the man, who gave his name as Connor, being grabbed by police as he continued to demonstrate.

He repeatedly shouted, “this is the fascist state that we are living in under Theresa May's regime,” as officers carried him away to nearby police vans.

He said he was protesting about the repeal of the foxhunting Act, fracking, austerity, "the lot".

"I've not done nothing wrong," he added.

Another activist told police that Connor, who appeared to have a Merseyside accent, had "done nothing wrong" and described their response as a "farce".

Asked if he was under arrest, an officer said: "Yes, he's under arrest."

Pressed on what charge, he replied: "Breach of the peace."

Mrs May was at the community centre to launch the Welsh Conservatives’ election manifesto.

During her speech she performed a U-turn on controversial social care reforms that were announced in the manifesto last week.

She said that a Conservative government would introduce a cap on social costs charged to the elderly for their care.

The Tories' opinion poll lead over Labour shrank amid public concern over the manifesto proposals which were branded a "dementia tax".
