Francine Set to Make Landfall in Louisiana as Category 1 Hurricane

Storm Francine strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday night, September 10, packing 75 mph winds as it closed in on the Gulf Coast of the United States, the according to data from the National Hurricane Center.

Francine was expected to make landfall Wednesday afternoon or early evening in Louisiana, southwest of New Orleans, according to the National Weather Service.

The NHC said there would be a danger of a life-threatening storm surge for the Louisiana and Mississippi coastlines from Francine. Residents were encouraged to follow the relevant evacuation orders.
