Francis Ford Coppola in His Own Words: The Day That Started 'The Godfather'
The Godfather, the book about power, brothers, and la famiglia written by Mario Puzo and then adapted and directed for the screen by Francis Ford Coppola, is widely considered one of the best films of all time. Many lines from The Godfather have also become part of the American lexicon. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars and ended up winning Best Picture for producer Al Ruddy, Best Actor for Marlon Brando and Best Adapted Screenplay for Coppola and Puzo. Now Coppola is telling the story of The Godfather — how it came to be and what happened step by step to bring this American classic to the screen — in a book called The Godfather Notebook. The book releases in bookstores tomorrow, but so does the audible notebook which Coppola himself narrates.
Audible Studios is releasing the audiobook version as Coppola himself brings to life the notebook that he wrote before filming the movie which reveals the intense, creative process that went into the seminal film. The notebook is being published now for the first time.
Here is a first, 2 minute clip from the audible notebook in the master’s own words:
