Frank de Boer has had a difficult start to life in the Premier League but he is satisfied Crystal Palace are making progress despite his team being winless after two matches.

Palace lost 1-0 to Liverpool on Saturday but their performance at Anfield was an obvious improvement from the defeat against Huddersfield on the opening day.

The Eagles were more disciplined in defence and frustrated Liverpool with their organisation and pressing until a mistake from Luka Milivojevic was punished by Sadio Mane late on.

Palace showed a much better understanding of how De Boer wants them to play and the Dutchman says his team can build on what was an encouraging display.

“If we play with that kind of intensity and discipline the results will come,” he said. “Of course everybody wants to win. I am always looking at the process of the team and how they are developing as individuals and a team. If I see there is progress then I am satisfied.

“We are empty handed right now. But if we show this every week the points will come.”

Palace face Swansea at Selhurst Park on Saturday in what already feels like an important match.

Both sides have no points after two games and De Boer needs his side to kick-start their season before the international break. Before then, Palace face Ipswich at home in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night.

Palace want to sign three players before the transfer window closes.

De Boer is interested in Oliver Burke, who was left out of the Red Bull Leipzig squad for their Bundesliga game at the weekend. He also wants a new goalkeeper.

Palace chairman Steve Parish has said Palace may need to offload players before bringing more in.

Asked how many players he would like to sign, Parish said: “In a perfect world probably three. It is just whether we could stretch financially to doing that. There are probably some that we need to get out as well, and that is as much a part of it.”

New signing Jairo Riedewald, who missed the Liverpool game because of a groin injury, is expected to be fit to face Swansea.
