Frasier revival is officially happening - with Kelsey Grammer reprising role

A revival of Frasier starring Kelsey Grammer in the titular role once again is officially going ahead.

Following the announcement that a new show was in the works in 2021, it has now been confirmed to launch on streaming service Paramount+.

US entertainment site Deadline first reported the news, with Paramount+ sharing a screengrab of the article on social media, captioned: "OMG Frasier is coming back, exclusively on Paramount Plus!"

According to Deadline, Grammer started expressing interest for a new series in 2018, and has driven the efforts to get the green light.

Set in Seattle, Frasier launched in 1993 as a spin-off to sitcom Cheers, and features Grammer as psychiatrist turned radio host Frasier Crane.

The new series will see Frasier surrounded by new characters in a different city, with original cast members potentially making guest appearances, Deadline reports.

In July, Grammer said in an interview that producers were "in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the Frasier reboot and it looks pretty good... I've had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so you know, I'm happy".

One of the most popular and critically acclaimed sitcoms of its time, Frasier ran for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, picking up dozens of Emmy awards and two Golden Globes for Grammer along the way.

The series saw Frasier returning to his hometown of Seattle from Boston, where Cheers was set, and also starred John Mahoney as his father, Martin, and David Hyde Pierce as younger brother Niles.
