Freddie Starr banned from looking after children alone

Comedian Freddie Starr has been left feeling "suicidal" since authorities banned him from looking after his children alone following his arrest in connection with the Jimmy Savile sex abuse investigation.

The TV star was arrested in Warwickshire earlier this month on suspicion of sexual offences.

He was bailed and vehemently denies allegations he groped a 14-year-old girl while in a room with Savile, who is claimed to have abused up to 300 youngsters throughout his long-running entertainment career.

Starr has now revealed he is at his lowest ebb after officials from social services ruled he cannot be left alone with his daughter, aged six, and his fiancee Sophie Lea's 12-year-old son.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, he says, "My life is ruined. I feel so desperate at times I want to go and end it all.

"It's heartbreaking because I'm totally innocent. It makes me feel suicidal. I don't think I can ever work again - how can I put a comedy face on after this?

"I'm no sex pest. But right now I can only have supervised contact with my kids. If (fiancee) Sophie goes out I can't be left alone with them in my own house. The way I'm being treated is humiliating. The kids are suffering too.

"A fella (man) came round and told me that as police were investigating me they had to pass my details on to social services.

"I've had to sign a piece of paper to say I can't be left alone with my own children and I must be supervised at all times by another adult whenever I'm with them."

A spokesperson for the social services department at Warwickshire Council says, "If a person has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences one criteria stipulates they can't be left alone with children."
