A special two-day event celebrating the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival will take place in Birmingham city centre this weekend. The Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee has organised a community event with traditional lion dances, a street market and activities for children on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

The two-day event is being hosted by the Southside BID and will centre around Hippodrome Square on Saturday from 10am and at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre at the Holiday Inn on Smallbrook Queensway on Sunday from 10:30am.

Those visiting on Saturday will be able to browse the Moon Festival Market, where they can try traditional Moon Cakes and dress up in traditional Chinese costumes. They'll also be able to shop handmade wooden items, jewellery and natural wellness products.

Jeffrey Yap, chair of the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee, said: "We warmly welcome everyone to join us in celebrating this year's Mid-Autumn Festival. This cherished occasion, rich in tradition and symbolism, is a time to gather with loved ones, appreciate the beauty of the full moon, and share in the joy of unity.

"As we come together to honour our cultural heritage, we want everyone to enjoy the festivities, taste delicious mooncakes and participate in the many activities planned. Let this festival be a reminder of the importance of family, togetherness and the bright future we share."

Julia Robinson, manager of Southside BID, added: "We are delighted to welcome this Chinese Festival to the heart of Southside, bringing a great deal of fun, enjoyment and Chinese culture to this part of the city centre."
