A Leicestershire town is launching a free weekend parking scheme to boost Christmas shopping trade. The initiative across four car parks will run for consecutive Saturdays, starting next weekend (November 30).

Shoppers in Hinckley will be able to park for free after 9am at Lower Bond Street, Trinity West, Castle and North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College car parks. The scheme continues on December 7, 14 and 21.

Shoppers can also take advantage of existing free Sunday parking, creating two full days of free weekend parking throughout December.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council Leader Stuart Bray said: "We continue to recognise the financial challenges this Christmas everyone is facing but hope that this free parking offer will urge residents to support their local high street, market and hospitality venues if they can."

The move aims to increase footfall during the peak Christmas shopping period, with free weekend parking available across all major town centre locations throughout December.
