'Freeloader' Bird Hitches Ride With Kayaker in Pennsylvania

A curious cormorant hitched a ride with a kayaker on Pennsylvania’s Memorial Lake, recent footage shows.

The video was shot by Lori Kees while she was bringing her new kayak on its “maiden voyage”, and shows the cormorant (which she jokingly labels as a “freeloader”) perching itself on the bow on her boat.

Kees says in the video that she can “only assume” the up-close encounter is “a good omen”, and mentioned in an Instagram comment that the experience was “such an incredible 20 minutes”. Credit: Lori Kees via Storyful

LORI KEES: Yeah. So maiden voyage of the kayak Roe v. Wade and this happens. I can only assume this is a good omen. So this guy has been sitting here for about 10 minutes on my kayak, just enjoying the hell out of himself while I'm doing all the work. But that's OK. I can't believe it.
