Brits have been enjoying glorious sunshine this weekend as temperatures soared into the mid-20s today. Greater Manchester was forecast its 'hottest day of the year' so far with highs of 24C.

But while, the balmy weather has been a welcome arrival for those out and about enjoying the sun, it can cause problems at night time. Trying to get to sleep in a warm bedroom can be difficult and with Monday morning just around the corner, you might be wondering how best to ensure a good night's sleep tonight.

Most homes in the UK are designed to keep the heat in, rather than let it out, which is great in the winter but could lead to a disturbed sleep in the summer. Leaving a window open may not be the ideal solution overnight, but there are others ways to ensure conditions are cool enough to get your rest.

Hot water bottles are usually brought out of the cupboard when we need to keep warm - but surprisingly, they can be a great way of keeping cool too. Sleep experts suggest filling a hot water bottle with lukewarm water and chucking it in the freezer for a few hours in the evening.

Then, about 10 minutes before you get into bed, place the frozen water bottle in between your sheets. In the meantime, you can finish your nightly routine by brushing your teeth or even taking a cool shower.

Having the frozen water bottle in your bed will cool the sheets and covers down so they're the perfect temperature for when you're ready to sleep.

You should then remove the frozen hot water bottle before getting comfy as your skin coming into contact with frozen water can result in ice burns. It's also advised that you don't reuse the hot water bottle with hot water as the freezing process may damage the materials, resulting in an accident in the future.
