This French figure skater pulled off a costume change mid-skate, deserves all the gold medals

French figure skater Maé-Bérénice Méité might not have won an Olympic medal, but she definitely won our hearts. Not only did she skate to Beyoncé earlier in the Games, but last night she also pulled off an incredible costume change right in the middle of her program. Basically, she’s a queen.

During the first half of her free skate program, which aired February 22nd in the U.S., Méité wore a tuxedo-inspired white long sleeve top and solid black skirt. Then, as if her amazing jumps weren’t enough, she made a quick costume adjustment to reveal a sparkly, sequined bottom under her black skirt — in the middle of her routine — which she wore for the remainder of her skate.

The costume change was ah-mazing.

Her wardrobe change went perfectly with her music selection, too. At first, as she skated to a classic 19th-century Chopin composition, her demure outfit was on point. Then, as the music changed to “Happy,” an upbeat electronic song by the French band C2C, her dazzling skirt made for the right stylish touch.

Of course, social media had a lot to say about her magic trick. Leslie Jones, basically the biggest fan of the Olympics ever, tweeted, “I like when they do stuff like this!” Even the NBC Olympics Twitter account chimed in. “First @beyonce, then a mid-skate costume change? France’s Mae Berenice Maite pulled out ALL the stops in 2018.”

Amidst the praise for her performance, Méité went online to thank her new fans.

Méité might have gone home empty handed at this year’s Olympics, but she certainly made an impression that we won’t forget anytime soon.
