French president Emmanuel Macron scolds teenager for calling him by nickname
French president Emmanuel Macron was caught on camera telling off a teenager for using his nickname.
The boy was left baffled when being criticised by the President for asking “how’s it going Manu?”
Mr Macron told the teenager: “No. You can’t do that.”
According to reports, the teenager had been singing The Internationale before addressing the president.
He told the teenager: “You’re here, at an official ceremony and you should behave. You can play the fool but today it’s the Marshalliase, the Chant des Partisans, so you call me ‘Mr President’ or ‘Sir’ Okay? There you go.”
The president then went to move away but then continued to talk to the teenager, adding: “The day you want to start a revolution you study first in order to obtain a degree and feed yourself, ok? And then you can lecture others.”
He then pats the teenager on the arm and walks off.
The President’s actions have caused a stir online with many people branding his actions as ‘rude’.
"Hi son, did you meet the President? How was it? It must've been so cool!"
"He made a show of me in front of the world."

Macron should remember that instead of scolding teenagers that he is a public servant, not a king. Calling him "Mr President" is the height of arrogance and, as far as I can recall, regal sorts don't last long in France.

I actually agree with Macron for correcting that teenager at the WW2 commemoration. I imagine this same kid thinks it would be appropriate to call a friend's Mum or Dad by a nickname on first meeting them....

While others thought that Macron's behaviour was justified.

I commend President Macron for teaching this young man a lesson. Nothing regal about it. It's all about common sense and appropriate behaviour. 'Call me Mr President’: Emmanuel Macron scolds teenager https://t.co/cOdyr00cnD

The teenager waited till Macron was in front of him and then starting singing the socialist anthem at his face; clearly being intentionally disrespectful and trying to wind Macron up. I thought Macron handled it well.
