National Highways warned motorists that they would need to allow extra time if they were travelling in the area due to the lengthy delays.
A statement issued at 5.30pm said: "Lane one is closed on the A34 northbound exit slip near Marcham due to a collision. Thames Valley Police are on the scene.
"Please allow extra time if travelling in the area as there are delays of 45 minutes."
And the AA reported that the average speed on the A34 northbound was 10mph at around 3.30pm following the crash.
It proved to be an afternoon of chaos for motorists on the A34 as a further crash then took place on the southbound carriageway between the A4185 and M4 near East Illsley in West Berkshire.
National Highways reported this crash just after 6pm with congestion of around three miles on approach to the incident.
