Fulham are determined not to sell Ryan Sessegnon for at least a year should they win promotion to the Premier League this season.

The 17-year-old is one of the most sought-after youngsters in the game and is wanted by Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

It was thought the 17-year-old would leave in the summer, but Standard Sport understands Fulham are prepared to ignore big-money offers if they reach the top flight. Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are in the second automatic promotion spot having gone on a remarkable 20-game unbeaten run. They are one point above Cardiff, who have played one match less, with four games to go.

Despite being so young, Sessegnon has played a major part in Fulham’s promotion push - starting 41 of their 42 matches at either left-back or on the wing. He has scored 14 goals and made six assists.

It is believed Sessegnon would prefer to stay at Fulham should they go up because he would be guaranteed to play regularly under Jokanovic.

Sessegnon’s form has led to him being nominated for the Championship Player of the Season, as well as the Young Player of the season at the EFL awards, which take place on Sunday.

Fulham value the teenager, who was part of the England side that won the European Under-19 Championships last summer, at around £50million.

It is believed Spurs are very confident about securing his signature if Fulham remain in the Championship. However, Fulham feel Sessegnon would be a major asset in the top flight and would look to keep him for another 12 months if they go up. A strong showing would also increase his value.

Sessegnon, who has been at Fulham since the age of eight, has two years left on the contract he signed last summer, so the club would be under pressure to agree a new deal to ensure they receive a big fee when they do eventually decide to sell.

The presence of Jokanovic at Craven Cottage is a key factor in Sessegnon’s future, too. The Serb took charge of Fulham in 2015 and handed the youngster his professional debut a year later when he was aged just 16 and 81 days.

Speaking in March, Sessegnon said: “For someone to have faith in you at the tender age of 16 is massive. This season he has had total confidence in me and I just want to repay him with my performances. I’m really focused on Fulham at the moment. I want to get us into the Premier League. I just want to keep improving.”

Jokanovic revealed recently that he has spoken to Sessegnon about the transfer speculation and gave a strong hint in February that Fulham were going to do their utmost to keep him.

Jokanovic said: “I believe at this moment he can grow playing here, rather than with a top-five Premier League team. I think we can give him what he needs.”
