An Irish pub in west London could have to shut after a woman was glassed while she was dancing and suffered a seizure.

A woman who was at McGettigan’s on Fulham Broadway was struck in the head and then appeared to have the medical incident 15 minutes later in the early hours of September 1.

The pub’s licence was suspended following the incident in September and Hammersmith and Fulham Council will now decide what further action to take at a meeting on Wednesday.

Steps the council’s licensing sub-committee could take include revoking the pub’s licence or suspending it for up to three months.

Police were called shortly before 1.30am to McGettigan’s following the fight, the council was told.

At first security at the pub told officers that a “minor altercation” inside the premises had been resolved without any further issues, the Met Police said.

Officers were not told that the woman who suffered a seizure had been assaulted during the altercation, the force added.

Police were then called by the London Ambulance Service who warned the woman had a lump on her head from where she had been struck by a bottle or a phone.

Officers revisited the pub and CCTV footage later showed that a fight had taken place “directly in front of the DJ booth”.

PC Michael Walsh, who was on duty and visited the bar, said a member of staff told him the woman had in fact been assaulted.

PC Walsh said in a witness statement: “This male clearly stated to me immediately that the injured female had been assaulted by being hit on the head with a glass while she was dancing on the dance floor area of the bar.

“This female had apparently then sat down for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before slumping over and having what appeared to be a seizure, to the point where emergency services were then apparently called.”

Another female customer was also sexually assaulted in a separate incident in May but police were not called or told about the incident, council documents show.

A man had “grabbed and groped” a woman outside the premises before being allowed inside to buy her a drink.

McGettigan’s was contacted for comment.
