Fulham welcome fellow strugglers Sheffield United in a game that will have major ramifications on both sides’ hopes of pulling off survival in this season’s Premier League relegation battle.

Scott Parker’s side had to settle for a point against Burnley midweek, with Ashley Barnes cancelling out Ola Aina’s opener for the visitors at Turf Moor, which places more pressure on this game at Craven Cottage.

While Chris Wilder’s need for points is even more urgent as the Cottagers could move 11 points clear of the bottom-of-the-league outfit, and the gap to safety would remain at least 14 points with 13 games remaining.

Parker admits it was “not acceptable” for Terence Kongolo to have a surprise 27th birthday party despite the ongoing national lockdown due to Covid-19, with the club starting an internal investigation.

Wilder, meanwhile, has considered the likelihood of relegation and his hopes of maintaining the squad to push for an immediate return to the Premier League: “[We need to] keep our players and go again, that’s what I want to do. Keep everybody and if we go down, they’ve got the attitude, ability, drive and desire to go again and try and have a successful season.”

While Parker admitted it is a must-win for both teams: “I think that’s fair to say (that it’s a must-win for both clubs). I think both teams are going to want to do all they can to win the game.

“There’s 14 or 15 games left and we’ve picked four points up this week, which was always going to be a tough week, to now which is a tough game with Sheffield at the weekend and I think with both teams it’s (the importance) evident. I’ve said it for the last few weeks now, every game that we go into now we want to try and win the game and that’s going to come on Saturday.”
