Full list of 59 car models facing £2,000 tax rise from April - see if yours is affected
Some motorists are set to face a rise in vehicle excise duty as 59 car models are earmarked for a substantial £2,000 tax increase.
For owners of new models that emit over 255g/km of CO2, the cost will soar by an astonishing £2,745 - making the annual fee £5,490. This hefty bump in fees is scheduled to kick in from April 2025, when standard road tax rates will also rise in line with inflation, but vehicles emitting more than 75g of CO2 per kilometer bought after this date will be subject to significantly higher taxes.
In what is considered a decisive step, tax rates for the first year on vehicles falling into the higher emission brackets are set to double, potentially contributing an extra £400m to the treasury coffers in the first year and potentially reaching a total of £1.7bn by 2030.

The budget has laid out some concerns regarding the current system, notably for zero-emission vehicles. The briefing paper points out: "The government recognises the disproportionate impact of the current VED Expensive Car Supplement threshold for those purchasing zero-emission cars and will consider raising the threshold for zero-emission cars only at a future fiscal event, to make it easier to buy electric cars."
