Full list of 'areas at risk' of flooding across Greater Manchester as 'act now' warnings issued

Eight flood warnings are in place across the region with a seperate flood alert also issued for the city centre and Salford Quays

Areas across Greater Manchester have been hit with a flood warning amid a day of heavy rainfall across the region, with river levels peaking and some roads expected to become immersed in water.

The Environment Agency has now issued nine flood warnings and seperate flood alerts, including in Manchester city centre, with residents in some areas told to 'act now'.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather alert for heavy rain across the region on Monday (September 30), warning of possible flooding to roads, homes and businesses, with delays also expected to hit public transport services.

A flood warning means flooding is expected and to act now, and a flood alert means flooding is possible and to be prepared.

Below is a full list of areas across Greater Manchester currently issued with a flood warning or alert. This list is accurate as of 5.45pm on Monday, September 30.

Chadderton

From 2pm on Monday, the Environment Agency warned areas around Chadderton Fold were likely to start to flood. Rising levels in the River Irk are expected to affect areas around Chadderton Fold, the Church Inn , Street Bridge Road and the Bowling Green. Residents were told to 'start acting on their flood plan', with the situation being 'closely assessed' by officials.

Cheetham Hill

Another flood warning was issued for parts of Cheetham Hill amid rising water levels in the River Irk. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land and roads and properties adjacent to the river.

People were told to avoid using low lying footpaths and bridges. Areas at risk include properties adjacent to the river Irk from Cheetham Hill Junction to Victoria Station. This includes Collyhurst Road, Roger Street and Scotland Bridge.

Crumpsall

Rising levels in the River Irk are also expected to continue to cause flooding in Crumpsall and areas near to North Manchester General Hospital.

The Environment Agency said flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Irk, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around land and properties adjacent to the River Irk, including Crumpsall Vale.

An 'act now' warning was issued for areas around Crumpsall Vale, Bellfield Close, Carsdale Drive, Sandybrook Drive, Newcroft Drive and Hawkins Close.

Blackley

An area in Blackley has also been issued with a flood warning by the Environment Agency. Aeas at risk include properties on Kendal Road, and some properties on Roch Bank, due to rising water levels in the River Irk.

A further flood warning was issued for an area in Blackley, close to Heaton Park. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Irk, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around properties at Highgrove Court.

Lostock, Bolton

A flood warning has been issued for the area around Bessy Brook in Lostock, Bolton. Low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around properties along Sudbury Drive and parts of Rumworth Road and Regent Road.

Flooding is expected throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

Middleton

Rapidly rising levels in the River Irk have caused a further flood warning to be issued in Middleton. Areas at risk include some properties on Hilton fold lane, and Rex Mill on Don Street.

Residents have been urged to 'act now', with the situation being 'closely monitored' by the Environment Agency.

A second alert was also issued in Middleton, covering parts of the town centre. Areas on Boothroyden Road, Manchester Old Road and Rhodes Business Park are expected to be the most at risk.

Properties around Alkrington Park Road, Middleton Way, Manchester New Road, Oldham Road and Wince Brook could also see flooding.

Manchester

Areas around the Vale Park Industrial Estate in Manchester are also at severe risk. The Environment Agency said areas at risk include some properties on Waterloo Street, Hazelbottom Road, Stoneyholme Avenue, Vale Park industrial Estate, Hendham Vale industrial park and some property on Hendham Vale.

Flooding was expected from around 2pm, with those living in the area told to 'act now', with the area being 'closely monitored'.

Worsley

Two flood warnings were in place across parts of Worsley, within the Worsley Brook catchment area. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Worsley Brook, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around land and properties close to Worsley Brook.

Areas at risk include Alder Street, Hartington Street parts of Botany Road, Hastings Road, Grange Road and Worsley Road and the allotments and playing fields.

Another area hit by a flood warning from the Environment Agency was for those in areas adjacent to Worsley Brook at Alder Forest Avenue.

Manchester city centre and Salford Quays

A new flood warning has been issued across Manchester city centre, with residents urged to 'be prepared'. Parts of the lower River Irwell catchment area could be at risk of becoming flooded.

According to the Environment Agency, parts of Manchester city centre, including around Chapel Street and the Green Quarter, Water Street, Oxford Road and Princess Street could be at risk.

Flood alert area includes the lower River Irwell catchment area, and also includes the Rivers Irk and Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks and their tributaries.

Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale

A flood alert is forecast to affect locations along the Upper River Irwell catchment area in Bolton, Oldham and Rochdale.

Low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around low lying land and roads around the Rivers Beal, Roch and Croal, Limy Water and their tributaries.

Upper Irwell catchment includes the Rivers Beal, Roch and Croal, Limey Water and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are around Farnworth, Whitefield, Little Lever, Radcliffe, Bury, Heywood, Whitworth and Bacup.

Wigan and Leigh

A flood alert has been issued for the River Glaze catchment area including Leigh and East Wigan. Low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around low lying land and roads around Moss, Hey, Bedford and Borsdane Brooks and their tributaries.

The Glaze catchment includes Moss, Hey, Bedford and Borsdane Brooks and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are Leigh, Tyldsley, Hindley, Westhoughton, Atherton, Worsley, Walkdon and East Wigan.

Residents affected by the flood warnings have been told to:

  • protect yourself and your loved ones

  • move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place

  • move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building

  • turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it’s safe

  • put flood protection equipment in place

  • do as the emergency services tell you

  • help others if it’s safe to do so

Residents affected by the flood alerts have been told to:

  • be ready to follow your flood plan

  • have insurance documents and any medications ready

  • avoid walking, cycling or driving through any flood water

  • move any livestock and farming equipment away from areas likely to flood
