The full list of bank branches set to close in the UK - including four in Wales

Four Welsh bank branches are among a list of 55 across the UK which are set to close. The sites, which include Halifax, Lloyds, and Bank of Scotland branches, are set to close over the next year.

Specifically, 32 Halifax branches are set for closure, alongside 19 Lloyds branches and four Bank of Scotland locations. This adds to the already significant number of closures in recent years, with 128 Lloyds, 119 Halifax, and 45 Bank of Scotland branches either already closed or earmarked for closure.

Two banks will close in the same Monmouth road next year, whilst Port Talbot and Brecon will also be affected. Banks have attributed this trend to a surge in online and mobile banking services coupled with a sharp decrease in footfall at physical branches. Consumer group Which? says that since January 2015, a staggering 5,970 branches have vanished from the high street, reports the Mirror. In response to the wave of closures, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has recently announced it would prevent banks from closing too many branches too swiftly, aiming to ensure continued access to cash for customers.

Under the new policy, banks will be obliged to provide alternative solutions for those affected by the closures. While these measures won't halt the closures entirely, they will require banks to offer other options for their customers. These new regulations are expected to take effect from September 18.
